I think we can all admit now after actually seeing the Tebow ‘pro-life’ ad that all of the angry fervor leading up to the Super Bowl was kind of ridiculous. Scratch that. It was *completely* ridiculous. Was that not the most non-controversial Super Bowl commercial you’ve ever seen? Mama Tebow’s sweet smile, sweet mother-son bonding…God, what was there to get pissed off about?
But “pro-women’s” groups were so outraged about the ad in the weeks leading up to it, you’d think it’d be something obscenely offensive. Women’s groups were concerned that the ad would discourage abortion & therefore negatively effect women and their own personal health, what with that whole, “Keep Ur laws off mi Body!” speil. The thing is, there ARE no laws anybody is trying to push on their bodies. Abortion is legal, and will always remain legal. What’s so flipping offensive about a woman encouraging other pregnant woman to seek an alternative mode of action?
See, the Tebow ad was not “anti-abortion”. Mama Tebow didn’t tell-off women who chose to abort their babies. She just simply wanted to show that women have the choice to keep their babies, like she did, in the face of difficult times. That’s ALL. I understand why people chose to be ‘pro-choice’…really, I do. But pro-choicers don’t really have anything to get upset about here, and they really jumped the gun with this outrage.
Which just leads me to another thought. Why is it when women present a different opinion that doesn’t involve abortion they’re labeled ‘anti-abortion’? In the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl all we heard about was this outrageous “anti-abortion” commercial. Why are women who find abortion acceptable labeled ‘pro-choice’ while women who personally don’t consider it an option for themselves are labeled ‘anti-abortion’? You’d never see a feminist (unless their super ballsy) go around saying they’re pro-abortion. Most politicians who say they’re pro-choice like to add “although I think abortion is horrible,” to that title. The Tebow ad was all about choice…the choice to not abort your baby. Why are all these supposed pro-womens groups so pissed off that women are being presented with more than one choice? It’s completely ridiculous and transparent. IMO, these ‘womens’ groups could really give a shit about women. At the end of the day, it’s really all about politics. Sad, huh?
For all of you who haven’t seen it, here’s the WILDLY CONTROVERSIAL (!) Tebow ad.
